Because the curriculum periodically is evaluated by the faculty and resident representatives, we can tailor the educational experience to the special interests and needs of the residents while continuing to meet the requirements for certification by the American Board of Family Practice and the American Board of Osteopathic Family Practice.

For instance, conference planning reflects various teaching styles and subject matter. Presented by faculty, local and out-of-town experts and residents, the conferences are offered daily as part of the scheduled morning report and cover a wide variety of topics and issues important to residents.

In addition, residents are encouraged to participate in the regularly scheduled hospital sponsored conferences, such as the Family Practice conferences, Tumor Board and Internal Medicine Grand Rounds.

Another important aspect of the education experience here at Wyoming Valley Family Medicine Residency Program is the Mother-to-Be Program - the residency sponsored obstetrics experience. As part of the program, residents are assigned OB patients, in whose care they participate during the patients' prenatal visits and delivery experience.

The Mother-to-Be Program provides the residents with an excellent OB experience, as well as continuity of care for the expectant mothers. Residents may also follow patients who are on their patient panel who become pregnant.

Similarly, our Family Care Center offers residents the opportunity to participate directly in the primary care of patients.
