MODEL FAMILY MEDICINE UNIT
A successful family physician faces unique challenges every day. As part of their learning process, residents of Wyoming Valley Family Medicine Residency Program meet just such challenges head on. Moreover, they gain practical and valuable family practice experience by taking an active role in our Family Care Center.
Providing primary and OB health care through approximately 20,000 patient visits each year, the Center affords residents and interns the challenge of practicing medicine in the ambulatory care setting. In fact, all procedures commonly available in the typical family physician's office are available at the Family Care Center, where residents will actively participate in treating, learning and observing.
The Center was renovated in 1996 and encompasses approximately 17,000 square feet, including a waiting area with a children's play area, administrative and faculty offices, resident's work area, 21 exam rooms, library and conference room, and lounge areas.
And because the Center is only a few minutes from Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, it is a vital link in the network of regional health resources providing health care to a broad and diverse patient population.
