ABOUT THE REGION

Northeastern Pennsylvania is a specter of natural beauty all year long, and the Wyoming Valley is the sparkling centerpiece to it. Nestled between the Pocono Mountains to the east and the Endless Mountains to the northeast, our region offers scores of advantages that make for real quality living, the kind that caters to virtually any taste, any age, any preference - indoors and out.

IN THE CITY:
As the third largest metropolitan area in Pennsylvania ( including major hubs like Wilkes-Barre and Scranton, our region is home to some 500,000 people), the Wyoming Valley offers residents an abundance of city-style conveniences, including outstanding restaurants, extensive shopping, professional sports teams, higher learning, movies, theater, concerts and much more. There's even Mohegan Sun, for fine dining, harness racing and the amazing excitement of a casino. Particular area attractions include:

  • PNC Stadium
Home to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees (a class AAA International League Affiliate of the New York Yankees) and site of a wintertime ice rink and a number of entertainment events.
  • Toyota Amphitheater
An outdoor theater that hosts top rock and roll, pop, country and other musical acts.
  • F.M. Kirby Center
A cultural focal point that features regular presentations by the Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic, the Ballet Theater of Pennsylvania and marvelous (and regular) offerings of Broadway Hits, children's shows, concerts and more.
  • Wachovia Arena
An 8,000 seat arena that's home to the Wilkes-Barre/ScrantonPenguins (a top ice hockey affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins) and the A3 league Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers football team. With events nearly every night of the year, the Wachovia Arena also hosts concerts, children's shows, trade shows, motocross events and an array of other entertainment venues.

IN THE COUNTRY:
The region is a true nature's paradise. The Poconos in particular are legendary for year 'round splendor, and Harvey's Lake, a short drive from Wilkes-Barre, is a resplendent and lovely natural playground all year long. In spring and summer, area lakes and streams are perfect for fishing, boating, tubing, swimming and waterskiing. On the nearby Lehigh and Delaware Rivers, whitewater rafting provides all kinds of thrills. Come wintertime, the area offers some of the finest snow skiing on the east coast. In all, recreational activities like these are readily available throughout the region:

  • 12 ski resorts within 60 miles
  • Numerous golf courses, tennis courts and state parks
  • Outstanding camping, hunting and fishing areas
  • NASCAR and other auto racing (Pocono Raceway)
  • Winter and Summer Keystone Games
  • Greater Wilkes-Barre Triathlon (an international competition)

While you're enjoying the peace, splendor and fun of the Wyoming Valley, you're just a hop away from major metropolitan centers including New York (2.5 hours by car), Philadelphia (2 hours) and Washington, D.C. (about 4.5 hours). In every sense, in all ways, life in the Greater Wyoming Valley gives one and all the best of so many worlds.

OTHER IMPORTANT ADVANTAGES TO CONSIDER:

Education:
Eight colleges and universities within easy commuting distance

Safety:
Sixth lowest crime rate in the country.

Airport:
The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport is serviced by a number of major airlines, offering some 40 flights per day.
